Annual Community Christmas Party a Collective Success

On December 9th, 2017, Christmas came early to Dease Lake at the Annual Kid’s Community Christmas Party. It was another successful event, thanks to the generosity of community organizations, industry, the Tahltan Band, TNDC business partners and suppliers. Community members from Iskut, Telegraph Creek, Dease Lake and other locations gathered for an afternoon of fun, games, prizes and visits with Santa. Approximately 350 children, youth and adults turned out to kick off the holiday season.

This annual event brings tremendous delight to children, youth and families living in our remote communities. While TNDC takes pleasure in hosting this event each year, the success of the party relies on the generosity of our suppliers, clients and business partners, industry and local organizations who donate food, funds and gifts, and many others who contribute their time to assist with preparations, setup and execution.

TNDC reached out to the community, industry, our suppliers and business partners to donate and the response was overwhelming. More than 40 organizations answered the call contributing dozens of toys and gifts, thousands of dollars, food and beverages, and in-kind support. Thanks to this generosity, there were toys for all children and youth who attended, and giveaways for the adults.

TNDC extends a special thank you to the Tahltan Health and Social Services Authority (THSSA)-People’s Haven (Tahltan Band) for providing the food and beverages, Dease Lake School for providing the event space, Bandstra Transportation for transporting gifts, Lakes District Maintenance for snow clearing and rubbish removal, and Sonya Dennis for taking photos. TNDC is also grateful to the many volunteers, who include employees from THSSA, Red Chris Mine and TNDC, as well as Santa’s helpers. Every contribution is greatly appreciated. A full list of the contributing organizations is below.

In the spirit of giving and compassion, everyone who attended was asked to bring a non-perishable item to the Tahltan Food Bank. We are delighted to have collected a large box of food items, which were gratefully received by the bank and will benefit members of the local communities.

TNDC extends our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who continues to support this special event each year. These contributions help to make the party meaningful and memorable for our local communities.
