HSE Superintendent

Description:

Reporting to the HSE Manager with a dual reporting line to the Project Manager, the post holder is the HSE community and sustainability lead on site for TNDC and responsible for supervising the HSE Coordinators onsite. The role also requires a positive interface with the client (Newcrest Red Chris Mining) as well as other TNDC stakeholders and sub-contractors. Providing support on the development and management of the project HSE programs to ensure operational compliance to safety standards, and risk mitigation to promote an engaged safety-focused culture. Also responsible for planning, managing, documenting, and reporting on all HSE and related activities, training, procedures, policies, commitments, incidents, and statistics for the site.

The work is in a remote camp setting and shift rotation is 12 days on and 9 days off (may be subject to change) due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. The shifts are 12 hours in duration.

The successful candidate will lead by example and foster a proactive, safe, and sustainable culture based on the common values of health, safety, environment, community, and sustainability. By taking a hands-on approach in mentoring, coaching, and promoting a positive reporting culture, the successful candidate is required to always function as an active participant on the jobsite.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct operational risk assessments/hazard assessments, develop controls to manage risks, build the positive safety culture aligned with our aspirations of Zero Harm and those of the client and manage associated risks in the workplace using the hierarchy of control and sound industrial hygiene practices
  • Work directly with the client in establishing a working group to align HSE policies, procedures, reporting, and initiatives, and ensure proper distribution of all documentation to advisory and management committees as required
  • Document all workplace incidents and investigations, and ensure that records are up to date and sharing in lessons learned
  • Instrumental in the migration of the HSE processes into a digital platform and aid in the digital transformation process
  • Compile and submit daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual HSE reports, report leading and lagging indicators of HSE activities
  • Ensure alignment between TNDC and Newcrest HSE management programs, objectives, and specific initiatives

Key Competencies, knowledge & experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher-level diploma (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline is desirable with minimum of 15 years’ experience in mineral exploration, drill programs, and working in remote helicopter-supported environments
  • Experience with design and implementation of health and safety programs and safe systems of work
  • Experience with reporting leading and lagging indicators of HSE activities/ conditions/incidents using appropriate systems and tools such as SafetyAdmin, DATs, SharePoint, or others
  • Understand the regulatory framework of British Columbia as it relates to HSE at exploration and mine sites and in the workplace
  • Ability to analyze incidents using recognized methods like ICAM or TapRoot to understand and recommend corrective actions as well as improvements to health and safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to embrace a full integrated team approach and be willing to be part of the solution to achieve safe productivity

Superintendent

Description:

The superintendent will play a key role in the successful execution of various projects. This position will oversee and direct the work of crews and contractors to ensure that the project is being carried out safely and according to schedule. The work is at a remote location in a camp setting on a rotation, working 12-hour shifts.

The successful candidate will be a key player in a highly progressive and motivated team who will lead by example, possess a positive attitude, make safety a priority and be a good ambassador for TNDC.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the site supervisor or designate, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • demonstrate absolute commitment and leadership in providing a safe working environment
  • ensure all incidents, near misses and hazards are reported and recorded
  • develops, maintains and drives the construction schedule in conjunction with the project and operations team to ensure budgets and timelines are met
  • provide leadership to team members through career development, coaching, training and performance management
  • strategically plans and implements manpower levels and material quantities and ensures proper equipment and trades are available as required
  • supervises employees and contractors to achieve all required project deliverables
  • fostering a culture of teamwork with staff and management

Qualifications and Experience

  • 5+ years of civil or mining construction experience in a supervisory role required; experience working in a Tier 1 company standard preferred
  • qualified trade or heavy equipment operator background required
  • working knowledge of health, safety and environmental protection practices and procedures
  • solid understanding of current construction practices; heavy civil experience being essential
  • excellent written and oral communication skills with attention to detail
  • proficient computer skills with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • able to take direction, follow instructions and adapt to changing priorities and multi-tasking
  • a team player that works respectfully and cooperatively with others

Project Engineer

TNDC is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Project Engineer at our Newcrest Red Chris Mine job site in northern British Columbia, approximately 100 kilometres south of Dease Lake. The work is at a remote location in a camp setting on a rotation, working 12-hour shifts.

The successful candidate will be a key player in a highly progressive and motivated team who will lead by example, possess a positive attitude, make safety a priority and be a good ambassador for TNDC.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the site supervisor or designate, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • monitor and document ongoing construction activities, quantities and processes to ensure milestones are met
  • provide input to produce daily, weekly and monthly production reporting and planning
  • ensure all QA/QC and geotechnical specifications are maintained and documented
  • assist with scheduling, modeling, preparing and maintaining project file systems
  • aid in the preparation of the daily change order system and RFI process
  • analyze all daily construction activities to coordinate short, and long-term construction plans with supervisor

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • minimum of 5 years’ experience in mining; preference is given to experience with tailings dam construction, underground mining and working in a Tier 1 company standard
  • Professional Engineering designation in British Columbia is an asset
  • excellent written and oral communication skills with attention to detail
  • strong computer skills with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.), Eclipse Contract Manager and scheduling programs
  • excellent organizational, administrative, communication and interpersonal skills

Heavy Duty Mechanics

Description:

TNDC is seeking Heavy Duty Mechanics to work in a remote camp setting. Work schedules may vary, depending on the position and jobsite, working    10-12 hours per day.

Our mechanical teams are responsible for the preventative maintenance and major repairs to mobile (heavy and light duty), auxiliary and stationary mining equipment, while continuously aligning daily functions. The successful candidates will be committed to safe working practices.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the site supervisor or designate, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • inspecting equipment, troubleshooting, and planning sequence of repair operations
  • investigating deficiencies and equipment malfunctions
  • following maintenance procedures to ensure all equipment meets specifications
  • cleaning, lubricating, and performing other routine maintenance work on equipment
  • servicing attachments and working tools as required
  • ensuring proper reporting, documentation, and clear lines of communication with supervisors
  • attending toolbox, safety and other meetings or discussions as required
  • participating in any other specified training
  • other related duties as required

Qualifications and experience

  • Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic Interprovincial Red Seal Certification
  • Welding Certification is an asset
  • 2-4 years of experience in the maintenance of diesel and gasoline mobile (heavy and light duty) and stationary equipment preferably in an industrial or heavy industry setting
  • maintenance repair experience and knowledge with Caterpillar is preferred
  • proven commitment to safety, health, and environmental standards
  • able to take direction, follow instructions and adapt to changing priorities and multi-tasking
  • strong work ethic with an ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • strong oral and written communication skills and able to use diagnostics
  • a team player that works respectfully and cooperatively with others
