TNDC is seeking an experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our dynamic team. This position is located at the Dease Lake shop within the TNDC Mechanical division. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with the expectation there will be overtime and on-call requirements.

TNDC’s mechanical division is responsible for the preventative maintenance and major repairs to mobile (heavy and light duty), auxiliary and stationary mining equipment, while continuously aligning daily functions. In addition, this position is responsible for the Airport Services equipment and all field based mechanical needs within the Telegraph Creek, Iskut and Dease Lake area. The successful candidate must be committed to safe working practices.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Fleet Manager with a dual reporting line to the site supervisor or designate, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • inspecting equipment, troubleshooting, and planning sequence of repair operations
  • investigating deficiencies and equipment malfunctions
  • following maintenance procedures to ensure all equipment meets specifications
  • cleaning, lubricating, and performing other routine maintenance work on equipment
  • servicing attachments and working tools as required
  • ensuring proper reporting, documentation, and clear lines of communication with supervisors
  • attending toolbox, safety and other meetings or discussions as required
  • participating in any other specified training
  • other related duties as required

Qualifications and experience

  • Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic/Technician Interprovincial (Red Seal) Certification (or related discipline) preferred
  • Welding Certification is an asset
  • 3-5 years of experience in the maintenance of diesel and gasoline mobile (heavy and light duty) and stationary equipment preferably in an industrial or heavy industry setting
  • valid Occupational First Aid Certification (OFA) and WHMIS Certification preferred
  • maintenance repair experience and knowledge with Caterpillar is preferred

The work is at a remote location in a camp setting. The regular shift for this position is 14 days on and 14 days off. The shifts are typically 12 hours in duration, however, infrequently flexibility may be required to accommodate operational requirements.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Human Resources (HR) Manager or designate, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • ensure legal compliance of provincial and federal HR regulations and applicable employment laws, and update policies and/or procedures as required

HSE Coordinator(s)

The HSE Coordinator(s) role is to work in cooperation with the project management team to achieve safety-related goals and objectives and ensure a safe working environment. Act as a coach / mentor / facilitator to assist management in fulfilling their occupational health and safety related responsibilities. Assist with the development and implementation of the project site safety plan. Conduct inspections, incident investigations, and ensure corrective actions are completed.

The work is in a remote camp setting and shift rotation is 14 days on and 14 days off. The normal shifts are 12 hours. The successful candidate will be a key player in a highly progressive and motivated team who will lead by example, possess a positive attitude and be a good ambassador for TNDC.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the HSE Superintendent or designate, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • liaise with Project Manager daily to foster, promote, and develop a positive and proactive safety culture
  • monitor and enforce adherence to company HSE Management System by all employees as well as subcontractors
  • provide suitable safety-related training as required
  • maintain a high level of safety awareness and performance at all work locations
  • investigate all incidents, hazard observations, and near misses
  • liaise with HR and Project Management with the early Return-to-Work Program when required
  • assist in the ongoing development and review of risk assessments (JHA) and safe working practices
  • facilitate the provision of and maintenance of records in relation to all Project HSE training including toolbox talks, orientations, and weekly Safety Meetings

 Qualifications

  • National Construction Safety Officer certification, post-secondary education and construction trade tickets will be considered assets
  • Achieved or working toward a Canadian OHS Certificate (internationally recognised equivalent achievement acceptable)
  • minimum of 5+ years safety experience in construction, particularly heavy civil and/or mining projects
  • knowledge of BC Occupational Health & Safety legislation, BC Mines Act / Health, Safety & Reclamation Code and other relevant codes, standards and guidelines

Shuttle Driver

TNDC Shuttle Drivers are responsible for safely transporting our clients’ employees, contractors, and guests within Tahltan territory. The shuttle drivers must have good communication skills both oral and written to interact with fellow drivers, maintenance team, operations team and passengers. The shuttle driver will be required to pick up shuttle vehicles from the TNDC office in Dease Lake.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the supervisor, or designate, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • assisting with loading and unloading gear / luggage

The successful applicant will be required to purchase parts and hardware for the equipment maintenance department, track purchase orders and source vendors for various parts and hardware needed.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Equipment Fleet Manager or designate, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • assist shipping and receiving with loading / unloading trucks and checking in merchandise
  • track purchase orders and source vendors for various parts and hardware needed
  • maintain a safe and clean work environment by following policies and procedures
  • keep accurate records of goods entering and leaving the warehouse
  • receive and process warehouse stock orders in inventory and logistics software
  • maintain and manage inventory levels and controls
  • attend toolbox, safety and other meetings or discussions as required, participate in any other specified training
  • adhere to relevant company procedures and policies
  • other duties as required

 Qualifications and experience

  • recognized degree or diploma in a relevant associated field or a combination of relevant education and training
  • a minimum of 5-years warehousing experience required
  • knowledge and experience working with Fiix CMMS software preferred
  • experience in mining operations is considered an asset
  • experience operating skid-steer, telescopic lift truck and relevant heavy equipment required
  • valid Occupational First Aid (OFA) and WHMIS certificates preferred
  • strong attention to detail and proficiency with computers (MS applications), particularly database management
  • time management, decision-making, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • able to take direction, follow instructions, adapt to changing priorities and multi-task
  • strong work ethic with an ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • strong oral and written communication skills and able to use diagnostics
  • a team player who works respectfully and cooperatively with others

 Conditions of Employment

  • pass mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and fitness for work assessment where required
  • valid Class 5 driver’s license required
  • ability to safely climb and access equipment, as well as lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs
  • ability to stay alert and pay attention to detail during duration of shift and extreme weather conditions
  • due to local, provincial, and /or client requirements; this position may require an individual to be fully vaccinated by a Health Canada approved or authorized COVID-19 vaccine
