Proud of What We Accomplished Together in 2022

As 2022 comes to a close, I want to reflect on our achievements, express my appreciation to our team for their contributions, and share our focus for the year ahead. I am proud of what we have accomplished together.

SAFETY FIRST, SAFETY ALWAYS

This mindset needs to be a way off life for TNDC to ensure everyone goes home safe. We have doubled down on our commitment to health and safety. We are enhancing our safety culture, performance and compliance, expanding our safety program, growing our safety team, and improving training and accountability.

EMPLOYER OF CHOICE

We conducted our first-ever employee survey to learn what TNDC was doing right and where it needed to improve. We listened to your feedback. We implemented a new Rewards and Recognition Program and wage increases, renewed focus on training and development, and enhanced communication to ensure employees are better informed, including numerous site visits by our Senior Leadership team and I to engage you personally.

INDIGENOUS PARTNER OF CHOICE

Working with tier 1 mining companies requires TNDC to have tier 1 finance, accounting and governance practices. We are improving our accounting processes (payables, receivables, payroll), enhancing our financial reporting transparency and improving the financial health of our organization.

OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE

TNDC’s goal is to be a trusted partner to our clients, delivering on client contracts safely, on time and budget, while performing quality, environmentally compliant work by qualified, reliable personnel and equipment. We are earning our client’s confidence, expanding our Operations team and improving our operational practices.

STRATEGIC GROWTH

Growth and diversification are essential for long-term sustainability. We introduced a Partnership Management strategy to improve profitability, are growing the scope and capacity of Airport Services, and our Fibre Optics division is implementing a long-held vision to bring critical highspeed fibre optics into Tahltan Territory.

2023 FOCUS

While we have made excellent progress in our priorities, change takes time. There is still much to accomplish to ensure a financially strong, sustainable and responsible Indigenous owned business.

  • Human Resources: implementing strategies to attract, retain and develop the talent we need, creating training and development programs to help our employees grow their careers, and into leadership roles.
  • Health & Safety: rolling out an updated HSE program, implementing an employee safety training orientation program, completing digitalization of the HSE process and achieving WorkSafe BC Certificate of Recognition.
  • Finance & Accounting: implementing budgeting to better forecast, improving our financial reporting to shareholders, auditing our financial statements to better access capital, and introducing tax modelling.
  • Operations: implementing Construction Management Software to more efficiently track costs, bid and execute on contracts, strengthening recruitment and training, and improving fleet maintenance and management.
  • Strategic Initiatives: achieving Federal Certification for the Dease Lake Airport, completing fibre optic construction and last mile connection to businesses and residences, and exploring expansion opportunities.
  • Partnership Management: implementing partner reporting, enhancing partnership to benefit TNDC, and improving the Sodexo/TNDC partnership to align to business needs and overall value creation.

Thank you for your continued hard work and loyalty to TNDC. Please look out for one another and stay safe over the holiday season. I wish you a happy, peaceful and safe Christmas and look forward to a successful 2023.
