On International Day of Women in Mining, held annually on June 15th, TNDC celebrates the women across our organization and the industry who are helping drive innovation, operational excellence, and community prosperity throughout the mining industry.
International Day of Women in Mining (IDWIM) is a global day to celebrate the perseverance, contributions, talent and spirit of the women who were, are, and will be, part of the mining industry worldwide. IDWIM embraces the theme “I am Mining and I Belong”. As the mining sector evolves, this phrase serves as a powerful reminder of the diverse individuals who contribute to it and the importance of creating a more equitable, inclusive and sustainable future for all.
This year’s International Day of Women in Mining is an opportunity to recognize not only the achievements of women currently working in the industry, but also the next generation of leaders, operators, technicians, engineers, and entrepreneurs who will help shape mining’s future.
Mining has traditionally been a male-dominated industry, but meaningful progress continues to be made as more women pursue rewarding careers in the sector and assume leadership positions across operations, maintenance, environmental stewardship, health and safety, and business administration.
Their contributions have never been more important. While women are making gains in Canada’s mining sector, they remain significantly underrepresented. According to the Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR), in 2025, female participation in Canada’s mining industry reached a record high of 19%, compared to nearly 48% of the Canadian workforce overall.
In comparison, women comprise 22.6% of TNDC’s workforce, a percentage we are committed to increasing, by carving pathways for women, particularly Tahltan women, providing them with the tools, training and opportunities to grow, develop and ascend within our ranks.
We are proud to employ some of the industry’s most talented women, in a variety of roles within our project sites and corporate offices, including equipment operators, administrators, environmental technicians, frontline supervisors, project managers, mid-level managers and senior leaders, and corporate professionals. Women continue to play an increasingly important role in every aspect of TNDC’s business. Their skills, leadership and dedication strengthen our workforce and contribute to the success of our operations every day.
We are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where women can thrive, develop their careers, and contribute their expertise. Through mentorship, training, professional development, and opportunities for advancement, we are working to build a workforce that reflects the communities we serve.
“International Day of Women in Mining is more than just a celebration; it’s a call to action for gender equality within the mining sector and TNDC. We extend our gratitude to the women who help move our business and the industry forward. Women bring valuable perspectives, skills and experiences that strengthen our teams and contribute to better outcomes across our business.
Today, we celebrate their achievements and reaffirm our commitment to fostering a workplace where everyone has the opportunity to succeed,” says Todd den Engelsen, TNDC CEO.
