Digital Connectivity

Through Tahltan Communications, a partnership with CityWest, TNDC delivers high speed fibre optic communications to homes, business and industry in Tahltan Territory, helping transform access to education, health services and business opportunities.

TNDC led the build of over 200 kilometres of new fibre optic cable in unison with fibre optic strands that are part of the BC Hydro Northwest Transmission Line. The $13 million project was supported through funding from the federal and provincial governments. TNDC applied for funding and worked on build planning and permitting, leading up to the start of construction in May 2022.

In June 2025, Tahltan Communications was awarded a contract through the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission’s Broadband Fund to construct approximately 250 kilometres of new transport fibre infrastructure, connecting Dease Lake to the communities of Jade City and Good Hope Lake (Dease River) in British Columbia, as well as Upper Liard in the Yukon.

Emergency Fire Services

In collaboration with Newmont, TNDC has received training to offer emergency fire services at the Dease Lake Airport. An on-site first responder truck and a compressed air foam (CAFS) vehicle are ready to swiftly respond to any potential aircraft emergency.

Regional Fuel Operations

TNDC’s Jet A fuel operations at the Dease Lake Airport supports medical evacuations, workforce transportation flights for the mining sector, firefighting and other chartered aircraft, providing a dedicated fuel source.

TNDC’s 100LL fuel operations serve small general aviation traffic visiting and passing through the Territory to Yukon and Alaska, on behalf of Stikine Airport Society.

Aviation Services History

Our Aviation Services has become an increasingly strategic and important area of TNDC’s business. Launched in 2020, TNDC has taken the lead on improving this vital community infrastructure to better serve health, medevac flights, emergency responders, industry and in future, residents.

Dease Lake Airport is now a significantly enhanced airport facility with year-round, 24/7 operational capabilities. We have significantly reduced medevac times, from 20.5 hours to 5.3. In addition, we have improved air access to Dease Lake and the surrounding communities, for mineral exploration, mine development, mining and industrial sectors; as well as improving wildfire suppression and emergency response capabilities.

In 2023, TNDC partnered with Executive Flight Services to provide onsite leadership with oversight and development of the airport and TNDC crews.
