Celebrating 115 Years of Progress: International Women’s Day 2026
On March 8, 2026, the world unites to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD), a global focal point for celebrating women’s achievements, raising awareness about discrimination, and taking action to drive gender parity.
Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. That is the ambition behind International Women’s Day. This year’s observance is particularly historic: it marks the 115th anniversary of the first official International Women’s Day in 1911.
2026 IWD Theme
The campaign theme for IWD 2026 is Give to Gain emphasizing the power of reciprocity and support. When people, organizations, and communities give generously, opportunities and support for women increase. Advocating, mentoring and giving our knowledge, resources and time to women’s advancement and helping bridge the gender gap helps create a more supportive and interconnected world. When women thrive, we all rise.
A Century of Courage
The roots of this day are found in the early 20th-century labour movements. What began as a local protest has transformed into a worldwide movement that recognizes the social, economic, cultural and political contributions of women and calls for action to address persistent inequalities.
While the day celebrates progress made over the past century, it is a reminder gender equality remains unfinished work. Advancing women’s rights requires not only recognition of past achievements, but continued commitment to justice, equality, and meaningful action for women and girls everywhere.
Breaking Barriers at TNDC
As an Indigenous community-owned business, International Women’s Day resonates with TNDC. We are proud to employ some of the industry’s most talented women, in a variety of roles within our project sites and corporate offices, including administrators, operators, frontline supervisors, mid-level managers and senior leaders.
The day aligns with our commitment to shattering the glass ceilings in the construction industry – a field where women have historically been underrepresented, making up just 14% of the Canadian construction workforce in 2024. In comparison, 22% of TNDC’s workforce is female, which we are working to elevate.
We foster a workplace culture that fosters safety, respect, equality, equity and inclusivity for our female employees. We are passionate about carving out pathways for women, particularly Tahltan women, providing them with the tools, training and opportunities to grow, develop and advance within our team. Our dedication to empowering women in the workforce is demonstrated through our Employee HEO Training Program and Tahltan HEO Training Program, which now in its fourth year, boasts almost 100% female participation.
We aren’t just building projects; we’re building a more balanced world. By leading with these values, TNDC inspires a future where every woman in our workforce has the tools to achieve her full potential and lead the way for the next generation.
TNDC celebrates the strength, intelligence and talent of the women within our ranks and those we call friends, mothers, sisters and daughters.

The 2025 campaign theme is Accelerate Action, emphasizing the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality. It calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the progress made towards gender equality and highlights the work that still needs to be done. At the current rate of progress, it will take until 2158, which is roughly five generations from now, to reach full gender parity, according to data from the World Economic Forum.
