CEO's Message - February 28, 2020

The 2019 work season has been productive and will be one of the best for revenue in recent years. We are equally optimistic for the 2020 season and opportunities unfolding. Through the implementation of our business plan we expect to see improvements across all areas of our operations. We are focussing on implementing initiatives to improve systems and enhance client services. The reformation of our business practices will help us meet the higher standards required by industry.

Strengthening our safety culture

Safety remains a top priority. In past updates we committed to improving our safety culture. Since then, we hired an experienced Health & Safety Manager who has brought positive results within a short timeframe. We have seen improvements in how we execute our safety programs across the company and begun providing additional training to employees at all levels. He will continue leading efforts to improve training, support and accountability to foster a stronger safety culture.

Building relationships with clients

To secure new contracts, TNDC must be a professional, reliable and qualified service partner. As the new operator of Red Chris, Newcrest Mining Limited – a world class mining company from Australia – brings higher business standards. These new standards are driving TNDC to improve our business practices at all levels – people, equipment, procedures and performance. This is a positive direction and an exciting opportunity to elevate our business to a new level. We look forward to developing these kinds of business relationships with all clients and partners.

Developing our people

Enhancing the knowledge, skills, performance and professionalism of our people is essential to meeting the requirements of industry and achieving our growth potential. We are focussing on training and development across all areas of business and will be developing a HR strategy that will identify the careers, education and qualifications needed to fulfill our growing our business. We look forward to sharing with the Nation the jobs we will have, and the qualifications needed though education and/or work experience.

Pursuing new business opportunities

While mining exploration and operations remains our primary revenue source, we are pursuing several initiatives that will support diversification of our business model. These include transportation, forestry, energy, aviation and fibre-optic communications. As discussions and planning for these pursuits are in various stages, we look forward to sharing more information in future updates.

TNDC is on an exciting and transformational journey that will redefine its future to ensure its long-term growth and build a new legacy as the business arm of the Tahltan Nation. My thanks to everyone who is supporting, embracing and contributing to the changes needed to achieve this vision.

We have had only positive experiences and look forward to continued collaboration.

  • TNDC is a great place to work. The atmosphere in the office is friendly, open, and honest, and there is always humour and laughter. I like that TNDC maintains an active approach of hiring locally and offers training within that position. Employees are highly encouraged and supported to advance professionally, which ripples into advancing personally as well.
