TNDC Participates in Dease Lake 2017 Canada Day Celebration

Rain couldn’t dampen community spirits for 2017 Canada Day celebrations in Dease Lake on July 1, which included a parade and social gathering. The theme of TNDC’s float commemorated the history of Tahltan people in the territory and relations with gold rush prospectors and European fur traders, with establishment of Hudson Bay trading posts, which led to development of the 1910 Declaration of the Tahltan Tribe.

TNDC’s float earned second place; first place went to the Dease Lake Girl Guides chapter. TNDC and the Girl Guides were two of almost a dozen organizations that participated in the parade, including the local ambulance service, fire department, forestry service, BC Hydro, Canadian Army Ranger Patrol Group and RCMP detachment, Lakes District Maintenance, Coast Mountain Ford and Red Chris.

The parade left at the Dease Lake School at 11:00 am and proceeded down Boulder Street, which was lined with community members. The post-parade gathering was held in the park above the baseball diamond, where a few organizations set up tents giving away food and other items. TNDC had a tent set up, where employees served barbequed hot dogs and frozen treats. TNDC extends its appreciation to the team members who participated in the event.
