TNDC profiled in Mineral Exploration magazine

TNDC was profiled in the spring 2015 edition of Mineral Exploration magazine, which focusses on mineral resource development activity – and the ensuing industrial development it’s driving – in northwestern BC’s Golden Triangle, which is in the heart of Tahltan territory.

The article, titled First Nations Forward: TNDC Comes of age in the Golden Triangle, tells the story of TNDC’s early struggle to gain an employment guarantee and a contract to build the mine road on the Golden Bear project in the early 80s, which resulted in the first Aboriginal Impact and Benefits Agreement in BC.

That success paved the way to the negotiation of agreements for employment and contracts for work on subsequent projects, including Eskay Creek, and modern-day projects such as BC Hydro’s Northwest Transmission Line Imperial Metals Red Chris mine and AltaGas’ three Northwest BC hydroelectric projects.

TNDC CEO/President Garry Merkel provides insight into the contribution TNDC is making to these modern-day projects, which have proven TNDC’s capability and developed the skills of the Tahltan labour force. He also highlights TNDC’s successes, and shares his optimism for the future and strategic growth plans, in line with its goal to capitalize on sustainable and responsible development in Tahltan territory that respects Tahltan rights, title and values and benefits all parties.

Mineral Exploration is published by Canada Wide Media and is the flagship publication of the Association for Mineral Exploration British Columbia (AME BC). Read the full article.
